The year 1890 marked the institution of medicinal herb shop called Nam Nha Duong in Binh Thuy market from Binh Nhut hamlet held by Nguyen Giac Nguyen for keeping liaison and gathering patriots against the French colonialists. By 1895, the coming back of Nguyen Giac Nguyen to Binh Nhut hamlet (at the end of Binh Thuy bridge) formed up the establishment of a pagoda named "Nam Nha Duong".
In first days, the pagoda housed just three simple apartments made from trees and tiles. The entity comprised sanctum, the eastern and western houses. The pagoda was rebuilt with five apartments and two lean-tos in 1905. Its central chamber experienced third reconstruction in 1917. When the high-ranking bonze Nguyen Giac Nguyen passed away on December 22nd 1917, the half-done work had been undertaken by Mr. Tran Van Nhieu, Mrs. Thai Tu and Thai Nam.
