Koto RestaurantKoto Restaurant is a great place for a meal or a drink close by Hanoi’s Temple of Literature. And this is no ordinary restaurant. Founded in the mid 1990s by Jimmy Pham, an Australian of Vietnamese origin, Koto (Know One Teach One) operates as a hospitality training school for some of Vietnam’s most disadvantaged young people. So you can combine a great meal, a juice or a coffee and make a modest contribution to the education of some wonderful young people. Koto’s graduates are holding down senior roles in hotels and restaurants across Vietnam and internationally. President Bill Clinton popped in for lunch in 2000 as did Australian PM Julia Gillard in 2011. The menu is a mix of western and local dishes. Koto has an inspired buzz that’s generated by the wonderful energy of its students.

When you dine at Koto, you are directly helping build a future for a young person. Preparing Vietnamese and Western cuisine and providing polished service offers far brighter prospects than hawking postcards or shining shoes.

At Koto on Temple of Literature, the young trainees put into practice what they've learned in theory classes, they interact with customers and practice their English, work as a team and gradually improve their skills and increase their confidence.
