Both are easy to find in Luang Prabang and the prices are always negotiable to a degree. Once there you find yourself surrounded by Lao craftspeople plying their trade and selling their wares. One of these small villages is Ban Nong Sai, which specializes in making saa paper which is a thick off-white paper with a rough texture that is made from the bark of mulberry trees.
You will also see several generations of weavers, all working side by side on traditional looms. It is fascinating to watch them weaving their magic! Ban Xang Khong is another such village with lots of saa paper products featuring pictures of monks, elephants, traditional Lao life scenes as well as weavers. There is also a small silkworm farm nearby.
