Best time to visit
The monsoon season between May and October brings plenty of rain especially in the highest regions. Temperatures are good for an area at altitude with the average annual figure at 20C with the maximum 10C higher. Even though there is significant rainfall that does not detract from the beauty of the Province. Laos travel packages are available all months of the year.

Things to see and do
People come to Xaysomboun to enjoy the natural environment rather than history and culture.

Phou Khao Khouay National Biodiversity Conservation Area established in 1993 is the major attraction. There are mountains as well as fairly large areas with little soil cover. Gorges and rivers are a feature as well.

Elephants, tigers, bears, white-cheeked gibbons, and langurs are among the inhabitants that live here although the chances of seeing a tiger are remote. Reptiles and amphibians are common while among the birdlife there is the green peafowl that was once regarded as extinct in Laos.

Accommodation
There are several guesthouses to choose from though just a single 18 room hotel at present.
