Vietnam tourism has closed and opened many times, transitioned to the "new normal" and welcomed international visitors for the first time in 18 months.
The third and fourth wave of Covid-19 in 2021 causes the tourism industry to continue to be severely affected, many businesses go bankrupt, the rest are like "sleeping bear". In the last months of the year, the industry has received signs of prosperity, as domestic and international tourists are gradually returning, adapting to the new normal.
On November 17, a Vietnam Airlines flight brought 29 guests from South Korea, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia... back to Vietnam. pilot program to welcome visitors with vaccine passports. This is the first time after 18 months Vietnam has data on international visitors. Followed by flights to Phu Quoc (Kien Giang), Khanh Hoa. As of December 6, the number of international visitors was 1,179 people.
In January 2022, Vietnam entered phase 2 of the pilot program to welcome international guests, with the participation of Quang Ninh and Da Nang. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed to add two more localities to welcome guests, namely Binh Dinh and Ho Chi Minh City, and expand the form of welcoming guests by land and sea.
Expected in the coming year, the Director General of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said that there are many good signals to confirm that Vietnam's tourism industry will recover soon. Specifically, travel agencies and airlines informed that there will be a large number of international tourists returning in the near future.
