Located about 38km from Lao Cai, Sapa is an idyllic place for those who wish to get immersed in the stunning beauty of soaring mountains and unique culture of the Northwest Vietnam. Found by the French in 1922, Sapa has been emerging as one of the best places for adventure travel in Vietnam for many years. Sapa is a virtual paradise with wonderful terraced rice fields stretching like steps to the sky. It is more attractive and vivid when the harvest season comes.
In 2009, Travel and Leisure Magazine (USA) also voted terraces of Sa Pa is one of the seven most beautiful terraces, Asia's and World's most special magnificent. In 2011, Lonely Planet magazine (UK) introduced Sa Pa "is one of ten awesome place for walk in the World".
The best time to trek in Sapa is from from March to May and from September to November when the weather is very comfortable for tourism. You can trek through villages of Black H’Mong, Red Dzao and Giay people such as: Lao Chai, Ta Van, Ta Phin or Giang Ta Chai to about unique culture of people there.
If possible, don’t miss a chance to visit one of the colorful hill tribal markets in Sapa where ethnic minority groups gather to buy and sell local products that cannot be found elsewhere. It is one of distinct character of hill tribal markets.
