Just a few kilometers from Hoi An by bike along the winding paths, you will reach Tra Que, a charming village surrounded by De Vong River and Tra Que alga pond in Cam Ha commune, Hoi An town.
The village is famous for over 20 kinds of herbal vegetables such as: lettuce, salad, houttuynia, flagrant knoutwed, basil and coriander vegetables etc. with special and different. These herbal vegetables are main ingredients to make spirit for traditional Hoi An dishes like Cao Lau, Quang noodles, the local ‘Tam huu' spring roll (made from Tra Que vegetables) and cake with meat (Banh Xeo).
The vegetables in Tra Que are highly appreciated thanks to the outstanding taste and flavor, the freshness, good quality and safety. The farmers use a kind of alga found only in a lagoon in Tra Que instead of chemical fertilizers. It is estimated that 8 tons of vegetables from Tra Que are sold in Quang Nam – Da Nang each day. That is why many eaters, even the easiest ones said that they feel tasteless if their meals lack in Tra Que vegetables.
Tra Que Village has found a new way to improve their income thanks to tourism. Many tour operator design many unique programs to Tra Que for their visitors. You will take a trip around the vegetable garden and join the farmers in preparing the land and fertilizing it with seaweed from the local lake.
