This sprawling market dominates the northwestern part of the city stretching from Hung Dao Vuong to 1 Thang 5.
One can see why the Mekong is the breadbowl of Vietnam by the dizzying array of fruits and vegetables that are sold here.
While most produce is sent downriver to Ho Chi Minh City, this market gets the first batch so it’s very fresh. Fruits are sold on 1 Thang Nam and vegetable vendors are found on Nguyen Cong Tru while centred in the middle is the central market which sells dry goods and random knick knacks.
Those looking for some street food can find a few vendors on Hung Vuong and Nguyen Cong Tru. While there is a lady that sells banh mi nem nuong all day long on this corner, it’s best to wait until after 14:30 when Ba Thu opens up. Always busy, she sells over 500 banh mi nem nuong each day over an eight hour stretch.
