Below is our brief and suggested tour itinerary: 

Day 1: Hanoi - Ha Giang (Lunch, Dinner) (~318km)
A long day of driving out of the bustling cities and towns to the beautiful countryside and mountains. Stop on the way to take photos, visit local villages on the way. Stay overnight in Ha Giang at a hotel.

Day 2: Ha Giang - Pho Bang's old town, Sung La Village - The Vuong's palace - Dong Van (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (~150km)
The highlight of your northeast tour in Vietnam as you drive up the imposing pass and heaven gate of Quan Ba, see impressive rock plateau of Dong Van, meet several ethnic minorities, see their life and learn about their culture, customs and habits. Visit Pho Bang's old town, Sung La Village - The Vuong's palace (palace of H'Mong King) before checking in a hotel in Dong Van.

Day 3: Dong Van - Meo Vac - Ma Phi Leng pass - Ba Be Lake (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (~200km)
If it is Saturday, you will have the opportunity to experience the weekly market of Dong Van before heading to Meo Vac. Stop on the way to enjoy amazing sceneries. Break at famous Ma Phi Leng pass then drive to Ba Be lake and national park. Tonight, you will stay in a homestay with a local family.

Day 4: Ba Be Lake - Cao Bang - Ban Gioc waterfall (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (~190km)
Ba Be Lake, surrounded by rugged limestone mountains, is Viet Nam's only natural mountain lake. This important eco-system is well known for over 330 species of butterflies! Have breakfast with your Tay hosts before exploring the lake with lush forest clinging to the surrounding mountains. Reach the end of the lake and trek to Dau Dang Waterfall before heading north through the mountains to the city of Cao Bang then continue to Ban Gioc waterfall where you will stay in a resort.

Day 5: Ban Gioc Waterfall - Nguom Ngao cave - Lang Son - Bac Son Valley  (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) (~180km)
Time to enjoy, refresh, swim, take great photos then drive to visit impressive Nguom Ngao cave then head to Lang Son along long the border line. Tonight, we stay in a homestay with a local family in Bac Son valley.

Day 6: Bac Son Valley - Hanoi  (Breakfast, Lunch) (~160km)
After your breakfast at the house, trek around the village. In the afternoon, drive back to Hanoi. Arrive at your hotel in between 5.30 and 6.00 PM. End of the service.
