North Vietnam Tour and places to see

If you are looking for an adventure to see beautiful sceneries, rich cultures or explore hidden mountains, the north of Vietnam will be highly recommended. 

Highlights of North Vietnam tour:
If you do not have much time, but want to see the best of the north, we advise you to take this tour itinerary:

Day 1: Hanoi arrival
Upon your arrival, Vivutravel's private tour guide and driver will pick you up and transfer to your hotel. Free at leisure and overnight in a hotel in Hanoi's old quarter.

Day 2: Hanoi City Tour
We will see the highlights of Hanoi including; Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Hilton Prison, Museum of Ethnology, Hoan Kiem Lake, Cyclo tour, Water Puppet. Other sites on request.

Day 3: Hanoi - Hoa Lu ancient capital - Tam Coc - Hanoi
Only 100km from Hanoi with 2,5 hour drive, you will visit the ancient capital of Vietnam that located in Ninh Binh before taking beautiful boat trip to enjoy Tam Coc - Halong Bay on rice paddy fields. Back to Hanoi in the afternoon.

Day 4: Hanoi - Halong Bay
Around 165km from Hanoi with 3,5 hour drive, Halong bay is highligh of all tours to Vietnam. Today, you will stay overnight on a luxury cruise to explore thousands of islets, mysterious caves or enjoy swimming, kayaking. Halong cruise is an unforgettable experience of a lifetime.

Day 5: Halong Bay - Hanoi
Learning Ta Chi on sundeck, taking photos of sunrise from Halong Bay will be memorable. Around noon, get off the cruise and drive back to Hanoi airport for your departure flight. This is a happy ending of Vietnam tour in the north. The tour is not long, but enough to get an overview of Vietnam and see some of the top places to see in the north.

Discovery tour of Northwest Vietnam:
Northwest Vietnam has long been the best place for photographers or people who love the mountains and want to discover the hidden parts. Below is our suggested itinerary.

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau
Around 120km from Hanoi, Mai Chau is a beautiful valley where the white Thai people live on stilt houses among imposing mountains and massive rice fields. Traveling to Mai Chau, homestay will be a great choice to experence.

Day 2: Mai Chau - Nghia Lo
Today, we go deeper into the northwest of Vietnam and you will hardly see tourists on the way. During the way, you can stop to visit some ethnic villages, take great photos before staying overnight in Nghia Lo, a little town.

Day 3: Nghia Lo - Mu Cang Chai - Sapa
A long driving day but can be the most beautiful journey as you pass Mu Cang Chai where the rice terraces listed as Vietnam national heritage before climbing the mountains to Sapa with wonderful stop at the Heaven gate and Silver Waterfall.

Day 4: Sapa - Lao Chai - Ta Van village - Sapa
This is the most beautiful Sapa tour to trek down Muong Hoa valley to enjoy one of the most amazing rice terraces in Asia. You can also visit the houses of the Black H'Mong, Day ethnic minorities. Back to Sapa for overnight. 

Day 5: Sapa - Hanoi by road
Morning is free at leisure for you to explore Sapa on your own. Around noon, drive back to Hanoi on a newly built express road. We can drop you off at the airport for your departure flight or take you back to your hotel in Hanoi.

Discovery tour of Northeast Vietnam:
The northeast Vietnam is really hidden charm of Vietnam tourism because not many tourists have information or the northeast tourism has not been well advertised. Vivutravel advises you to book this northeast Vietnam tour:

Day 1: Hanoi - Ha Giang
The drive to Halong is nothing much to tell as it is just the beginning. You will see poor villages, rice fields, mountains, rivers  before arriving Ha Giang to stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 2: Ha Giang - Quan Ba - Dong Van
The highlight of the northwest Vietnam tour as you come to the remote and mountainous areas. You will be impressed with Heaven Gate of Quan Ba, Rock Plateau of Dong Van, Pho Bang old town, the Vuong palace before getting to Dong Van to stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 3: Dong Van - Meo Vac - Ba Be Lake
The picturesque mountain road leads you to Ba Be Lake and national park. During the way, you can see interesting market in Meo Vac, nice break on top of Ma Phi Leng  pass. Tonight, you stay overnight with a Tay family on a house of stilts.

Day 4: Ba Be lake - Cao Bang - Ban Gioc Waterfall
After breakfast, you will take the boat trip to explore the lake and cave of Ba Be before going on to Cao Bang. Tonight, you will stay at Ban Gioc.

Day 5: Ban Gioc - Nguom Ngao - Bac Son Valley
Time to enjoy fresh and cool air at the waterfall then visit impressive Nguong Ngao cave. Drive to Lang Son and tonight you will stay overnight at a homestay in Bac Son, the beautiful valley.

Day 6: Bac Son - Hanoi
The morning is to take photos and explore the valley beforing driving all the way to Hanoi or Halong Bay.
