Vivutravel is local travel company based in Hanoi, Vietnam. We are experienced local travel expert for many years and would like to give you some advice on where to travel in Vietnam in a "new normal stutus" to avoid risk, but enjoy more.

1. Ha Giang
300 km from Hanoi, Ha Giang is the northernmost province of Vietnam. It takes aroudn 7 hour drive to this city, but the best part is Dong Van (150km from Ha Giang), a district of Ha Giang where is amazing and having lots of things to see such as "Ma Phi Leng pass", Hoang Su Phi rice terraces, Lung Cu flag tower, H'Mong King Palace, Ethnic villages, Nho Que river, etc.

Ranked as the most beautiful part of Vietnam, Ha Giang is a remote and mounatainous destination, great for nature lovers who want to discover amazing things! Coming there, a private tour is recommended and you can choose to stay overnight in a homestay with local people or in around 3 star hotel.

2. Ban Gioc waterfall
About 400km from Hanoi (8 hour drive), Ban Gioc waterfal is located in Cao Bang province, northeast Vietnam on the border of Vietnam and China. The road to Cao Bang is scenic and the waterfall is among the most beautiful ones in the world. It is worth seeing in a 3 day -2 night tour with combination with Ba Be lake.

Ban Gioc is like an "Off the beaten path" trip. It is safe to keep you away from the crowd. A nice hotel named "Saigon Ban Gioc" is right at the waterfall for you to enjoy your time.

3. Mu Cang Chai
About 300km from Hanoi, but it takes 8 hours of driving. Mu Căng Chai is where to see one of the most amazing rice terraces in Vietnam. The best time to visit is from June to September. Mu Cang Chai is a mountainous distric of Yen Bai province in the northwest of Vietnam. Coming here, you also have option to experience homestay in a ethnic village or a nice 4 star resort.

If you are a photographer, Mu Cang Chai is a must-visit destination.

4. Sapa
5,5 hour drive from Hanoi, Sapa has long been a famous and popular destination to visit. However, Vivutravel still recommends a trip to Sapa with us as we advise tourists not to stay in town, but a place that is away from tourists. You can still see all the highlights of Sapa.

5. Pu Luong
If you do not want to spend 5,5 hours on car to Sapa, Pu Luong will be a great alternative where you will also see wonderful mountains, rice terraces, impressive waterwheels and daily life the the H'Mong, White Thai ethnic minority living in the area.

In Pu Luong, you can stay at a homestay or a mountain retreat. Pu Luong is a nice and good place to relax and hide yourselves from the crowds.

6. Lan Ha Bay
Same location as Halong Bay or can be considered as an extension of Halong Bay, Lan Ha bay belongs to Hai Phong province while Halong Bay is in Quang Ninh Province. Lan Ha bay is even more beautiful and diverse with many littles beaches, fishing villages, lagoons and places for kayakking, rock climbing or trekking through Cat Ba national park.

Some cruise companies are now offering overnight cruise around Lan Ha Bay. You can also extend your trip with few nights at a beach resorts. Vivutravel will help you plan the trip.

7. Quang Binh
Quang Binh is emering as a hot destination for its nice beaches and spectacular caves in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang national park, another world's natural heritage in Vietnam. Vietnamese tourists are many in Summer, but from October to April, just a few. So, it is time for international tourists to visit. From Hanoi, tourists can take the short flight or train to Dong Hoi City of Quang Binh province. You can travel south to visit the DMZ (Famous places in the Vietnam war), Hue, Hoi An, etc.

8. Quy Nhon
A beach holiday destination on the way from Danang to Nha Trang, Quy Nhon's beaches are among the best in Vietnam, but little visited because nternational tourists normally choose Da Nang, Nha Trang or Mui Ne, a more popular one.

9. Mekong Delta
Mekong is quite a large destination in Vietnam but tourists always spend 1-2 day trip to My Tho, Ben Tre, Vinh Long or Can Tho. Vivutravel suggests that you skip these places and explore Mekong in depth. Off the beaten path trips to Soc Trang, Ca Mau, Chau Doc, Ha Tien provinces, you will see more, something different, unique and safer.

10. Con Dao Island
This island used to be a "Hell on earth" during the French and American war, but it is now a little paradise for tourists to find the peace of mind and enjoy emerald sea, white sandy, but quite beaches.

Just a short flight from Ho Chi Minh City, you will be on Con Dao island, it is time to relax at the paradise.

Destinations not to spend much time in Vietnam

1. Hanoi
Hanoi is a great city to explore, but in the "Covid times", we advise you to stay in this city for one night. Hanoi is the second largest city of Vietnam in pupulation. The risk is high.

2. Ninh Binh
100km from Hanoi, Ninh Binh is so well-known as "Halong bay on land" and so popular among Vietnamese, Asian and Western tourists. Places like Tam Coc, Trang An, Hoa Lu temples, Bai Dinh pagoda are ful of tourists. If you really want to go there, Vivutravel will help you plan a trip and customize it to keep you away from the crowds.

Hue is a great city to learn about Vietnamese culture, history and cuisine with forbidden citadel, temples, royal tombs, romantic river, etc. If you are not interested in these mentioned things. Just skip Hue or stay for only one night.

4. Hoi  An
The most beautiful destination to visit in Vietnam, it is so bad not to stay here. However, do not stay within the ancient town becasue you will meet a lot of Chinese, South Korean tourists. Just stay a beach resort at Cua Dai or An Bang beach (5 km away from Ancient town). Most resorts have private beach and free shuttle bus to the town.

5. Da Nang
Nice city with beaches, but Da Nang is where Asian tourists like Chinese, Korean will stay. So skip Da Nang.

6. Nha Trang
Same reason as in Da Nang.

7. Mui Ne
Russians love Mui Ne and you will see many of them. Let's google how many cases of Covid-19 in Russia. So the risk is high?

8. Saigon
The largest and most exciting city of Vietnam. Can be nice for the young, but not really for family and couple, especially, in Covid 19 times.

9. Phu Quoc Island
This pearl island has been the first choice for all tourists in recent years. Vivutravel advises you to choose Con Dao as alternative. If not, just make sure you will book the right hotel/resort in Con Dao. Vivutravel can help.
