There are a few ways to get from Hanoi to Danang; either bus, train or plane. By train and bus the general distance is 780km. This means that by train it will take you around 17 hours to reach your destination. The great thing about taking the train is that it is a sleeper train, so you can sleep and relax on the train on the way there. There are 6 trains per day, and one way tickets cost anywhere from $18-50 usd, dependant on class and type of seat. There are a few sleeper tourist busses which cost around $16 usd per person. The bus will take a bit longer, anywhere from 17-20 hours, and is somewhat comfortable. The quickest and best way to travel from Hanoi to Danang is by plane. What should I eat in Danag?
Danag is not necessarily known for its cuisine, but there are a few foods to look out for. Salad of Nam O fish is a salad made from fish meat that comes from the sea. It is very fresh, has a sweet flavor, and is normally made from Herring. Chicken rice is a dish made all over the world, but in Danang it is fried and made with chilli sauce. The rice is hot and soft, with a side of cucumber or fermented cabbage. Next there is a dish recognized by the name in western culture, pancakes. In Danang this dish is called banh xeo, and is a street food. It is a thin layer of rice paper with raw veggies, sweet and sour fish sauce as well as bean sprouts, meat and shrimp. Finally, a famous dish is called Bun cha, and in Danang it is made with fish. Bun cha is a vermicelli and fish dish with a sweet broth. The broth is made of fruits and vegetables with chilli, making it a salty, sweet and spicy dish.
How do I get around Danang?
In recent times, Uber has been banned from Danang, so many tourists wonder how they will get around in this city. One thing that is wonderful about Danang is that walking is very easy and common within the city. There are sidewalks that line the ocean, and a boardwalk as well. When needing to go further distances, taxis are easily available. While a scooter is always an option, unless you are an experienced scooter rider it is more recommended to take advantage of the taxis.
What is there to do in Danang?
Danang has many wonderful activities that make it a unique place in Vietnam:
● Beaches: The beautiful beaches of Danang have even been published in Forbes magazine. Only 3km from the city center there is the beach of My Khe. With incredible blue waters and white sandy beaches, this beach is the one that you think of when you dream of a tropical sea.
● Son Tra peninsula: This area of Vietnam is very unique as it has both the sea and natural forests that meet in one area. There are many endangered animals that live in these forests as well as 300-400 primates.
● Non Nuoc Mountains: These mountains are also known as the Marble Mountains. These limestone mountains meet the beach, and hold the stone carving village of Non Nuoc. They produce artifacts here and are well known not only all over Vietnam, but throughout the world.
● Dragon Bridge: This bridge is quite famous and special, as it is the heaviest bridge in Vietnam. There are over 15,000 light bulbs as well which make this a nice thing to do at night. It is called dragon bridge because it sprays water and fire, but the fire is only done on the weekend. Go around 9pm to view the water and fire show.
● Ba Na Hill: This is one famous tourist attraction that is a bit far from the center, but definitely worth the trip. With great weather, you will travel there by a beautiful and long road. Those who are experienced on a motorbike will find this to be quite a good time, but there is also a bus for 136,000 dong for a return ticket.
● Sky 36: This is a well known skybar getting its name from being on the 36th floor within the Novotel Danang hotel, with its address being number 36. From this bar you can see the rivers, mountains, sea, and neon lights at night. This is a wonderful view and recommended to any tourist visiting Danang.
When is the best time of year to visit Danang?
The best time to visit Danang is from March through September due to the beautiful ocean breeze, and the wonderful daytime temperatures between 26-29 degrees celsius. At night it gets a bit colder, anywhere from 18-23 degrees, but nothing that a light sweater or jacket can’t fix. Monsoon season is during summertime, which is June through August. The temperatures are higher during this time, and there is a high chance of rain. Another time to visit Danang is during the winter, which is November through February. It gets quite cold, 10-18 degrees celsius, but you do miss the crowds of the summer and peak tourist seasons. You will have to decide which is best for you, whether you prefer the best weather, you don’t mind rain, or prefer less crowds and make your decision!
