You can buy ticket by yourself at: Hoang Long Office inside Luong Yen bus station before the departure time 15 minutes or you can pay on the bus. It is easy and available. Make sure it is Hoang Long bus (the red bus) because there are some bus companies have a similar name but they do not connect you to Cat Ba town, they only drop you in Hai Phong city.

2/ Speed boat from Hai Phong to Cat Ba Town
From Hanoi, you can go by private car or public bus to get Binh Habor. Arrive Binh Harbor (Ben Binh) in Hai Phong city, you can buy speed boat ticket to get Cat Ba Town. There are some trips departing in the morning and early afternoon.
A. HOANG YEN SPEED BOAT (Binh Harbor - Cat Ba Town): It takes 45 minutes
B. CATBA ISLAND SPEED BOAT (Binh Harbor - Cat Ba Town):It takes 1 hour
C. HADECO SPEED BOAT (Speed boat from Binh Harbor to Cai Vieng Harbor then tranship by bus to Cat Ba Town)It takes 45 minutes by speed boat and 45 minutes by bus from Cai Vieng to Cat Ba town.

3/ Private transfer Hanoi - Hai Phong - Cat ba
We can pick you up at your hotel in Hanoi, at Airport or at Hanoi train station by a private car or van, our driver takes you 2 hour though the Red River delta to Hai Phong city. Then connect with  a hydrofoil or a high speed boat which takes you 45 minutes or 80 minutes  ( depends  type of speed boats and hydrofoil ) to arrive Cat Ba town.
