Phu Yen Province is a coastal province in central south Vietnam, 120 kilometres to the north of Nha Trang. Its beaches are wonderful and remain fairly quiet in comparison to more well-known ones. If you are looking to enjoy a Vietnam beach holiday, you should look closely at Phu Yen. It makes sense to talk to your Vietnam travel agent to see what he says. He will be able to make all the transport and accommodation arrangements for you in advance.
The stretch of coastline not only has lovely beaches but there are small islands offshore, lovely bays and behind mountains and rivers that are also worth exploring. The locals are often fishermen whose catch will be on restaurant plates that same evening. Clams, oysters, tuna and the Mai fish are common on menus with plenty of seasoning, herbs and spices.
There are plenty of things to do in Phu Yen apart from lying on the beach. You can swim, dive or go sailing but think about heading inland as well. The White Stone Pagoda at Chua Da Trang was built by Buddhists in the 18th Century while Thap Nhan Tower on Nhan Mountain was built in the 2nd Century BC by the Champ people. If you hire a bike you can see more of the area though hikers will get real pleasure walking in this beautiful environment.
There is little in the way of nightlife other than relaxing with a beer; Phu Yen is not that kind of place. You will find plenty to do elsewhere in Vietnam at night-time so a couple of days relaxing will do you good.
There is not a bad time to visit Phu Yen. There is plenty of sunshine, even in the rainy season and early risers will be rewarded with a stunning sunrise, while later in the day, the subsets are almost as good.
Even though Phu Yen is little known as yet, the national transport infrastructure is excellent so nowhere is inaccessible. There are coach services if you have not already booked to go in a Vietnam travel package that arranges things in advance. There is a small domestic airport nearby with connections down to Ho Chi Minh City. The train runs down the coastline with Danang eight hours to the north, Nha Trang two and a half to the south. Even the journeys through this wonderful country are enjoyable.
